Annual Mission Appeal takes place this weekend, 24th/25th September 2016.

Today St Ann’s Parish welcomes Fr. Melaku on behalf of his Order, The Comboni Missionaries (The Verona Fathers) to make the Annual Mission Appeal. Please let us be generous to this appeal as this offers us the opportunity to show our solidarity with our missionaries.

We also pray for the Comboni Missionaries, especially for those who at present are working in the midst of difficult and dangerous situations and places. May they be strengthened by our spiritual and material support.

Blessing of Pets: St. Francis of Assisi is the Patron Saint of Animals and the Ecology. We will celebrate his Feast day on 2nd October. The 10:30am Holy Mass will take place in the Presbytery Garden at the end of Mass we will bless our pets. The love we give to a pet, and receive from a pet, can draw us more deeply into the larger circle of life, into the wonder of our common relationship to our Creator.

Prayer: “Blessed are you, Lord God, maker of all living creatures. You called forth fish in the sea, birds in the air and animals on the land. You inspired St. Francis to call all of them his brothers and sisters. We ask you to bless our pets. By the power of your love, enable them to live according to your plan. May we always praise you for all your beauty in creation. Blessed are you, Lord our God, in all your creatures! Amen.”

Focus on Non-Essentials Brings Exhaustion, Warns Pope Francis.

Perhaps our exhaustion is caused by having put too much trust in things that are not essential, because we have distanced ourselves from what is really valuable in life. We do not need to be afraid to follow God because the hope we place in Him will not be disappointed.

CAFOD Harvest Fast Day will take place on Friday 7th October 2016.

Envelopes will be handed out as you leave Mass on 2nd October 2016; please bring them back on Sunday, 9th October, with your donations enclosed.

Thank you for your generosity.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL 21 FIRST COMMUNICANTS who received Holy Communion for the very first time on 18th June 2016!

We keep them in our prayers so that they may continue to grow in their love of God, self and neighbour. The Grace of God obtained through the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist will support them all the days of their lives.

We thank their catechists, Alex and Sr. Ursula for their hard work in preparing our First Communicants for this special day to welcome Jesus into their hearts.

We thank Paul for taking important photos of this special day.

We congratulate and thank parents for their dedication in bringing their children to the Church, for taking care of flower arrangements and other organisations in the Church and in the Hall.

Prayer and Celebration on 19th June 2016

Today is Fathers’ Day. On this special day we are saluting all fathers and wish them an enjoyable and blessed day.

The term ‘father’ includes all fathers, grandfathers, priests and single persons who play the role of fathers.

Male qualities begin with fathers and sons and needs to be done with love and even a sense of tenderness.

As our Pope said, ‘we can be tender without being soft or a push-over’. That applies to dads in a special way.

Annual Parish BBQ on 26th June 2016

Enjoy this festive occasion.

Thank you very much for your support.

Clergy Support Fund Campaign

As you probably know, there has been a significant increase in the number of diocesan priests becoming aged or ill after a lifetime of service and Archbishop Peter has asked that every parishioner consider whether they can contribute financially to meeting their needs.

There will be a short presentation to give more information and an opportunity to ask questions about this in the church hall after the 10.30am Mass on Sunday 24 April.

Please do attend if you can. If you wish to donate but cannot attend the meeting, please take the campaign booklet which has all the information you need about why the campaign is necessary and how you can donate directly to the campaign office.

With thanks in anticipation. Frances Mulligan (campaign leader for the south west area of the diocese).
